Which whitening methods are offered at the clinic?
Three methods are offered at our clinic: in-office (light-activated) whitening, at-home whitening and combined whitening, which uses both. Which one is suitable is decided after the examination.
| Method | How is it done? | Duration | Who is it suitable for? |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-office | At the clinic, gel is applied after the gums are protected, and blue-violet LED light is used | One session of about 45–90 minutes | People who want a change in a shorter time |
| At-home | A low-concentration gel supplied by the dentist is used at home with custom-made clear trays | Usually 1–3 weeks | People who prefer gradual progress and those prone to sensitivity |
| Combined | An in-clinic session followed by at-home trays | Clinic session + a few weeks | People aiming for a marked colour change |
In Türkiye, light-activated treatment is often also called "laser whitening". The device at the clinic is a blue-violet LED light source. It is the gel that actually produces the whitening effect; the contribution of the light to the result is scientifically debated. For details, see our page teeth whitening methods.
What happens at the first examination?
At the first examination, we assess whether your teeth and gums are suitable for whitening. Whitening is a cosmetic treatment planned in a healthy mouth.
- Consultation: We discuss your expectations, any sensitivity you have had before, the medicines you take and your general health.
- Intraoral examination: We check for decay, gum inflammation, receding gums and exposed root surfaces.
- X-rays if needed: Imaging may be requested for root-canal-treated or suspicious teeth.
- Shade measurement: The starting shade is recorded with a shade guide.
- Assessment of fillings and crowns: Fillings, crowns or veneers on the front teeth do not whiten, so a colour difference may appear afterwards; this is planned for in advance.
- Choosing a method: The method and timetable that suit you are decided together.
If there is tartar, a scale and polish is recommended before whitening. If anything needs treatment, that is completed first. You can find out who should wait on our page who should not have teeth whitening.

How does the appointment process work?
The appointment process starts with a short preliminary conversation and continues with examination, planning and treatment.
- Call 0312 911 60 36 or message us on WhatsApp to arrange a day and time that suits you.
- At the examination appointment, suitability is assessed and a method is chosen.
- If needed, a scale and polish or treatment for decay or gum problems is carried out first.
- For in-office whitening, the session day is scheduled; for at-home whitening, impressions are taken and custom trays are made.
- After treatment, aftercare advice is given and a follow-up appointment is planned if needed.
Whether the examination and treatment can be done on the same day depends on your oral health and the schedule. This is clarified at the examination.
What to expect on the day of your whitening session
An in-office session usually takes 45–90 minutes and consists of a few simple steps.
- The teeth are cleaned and the starting shade is recorded.
- A mouth retractor is placed to keep the lips and cheeks away.
- A protective barrier is applied to the gums and hardened with light.
- Whitening gel is applied to the front surfaces of the teeth and renewed at set intervals.
- The gel is removed, the shade is measured again and, if needed, a treatment to reduce sensitivity is applied.
Mild, temporary twinges may be felt during the session. We explain in detail what to expect on our page does teeth whitening hurt. You can return to your daily activities once the session is over; you will only be asked to avoid coloured food and drinks for the first two days.

How much lighter will teeth get, and how long does it last?
The degree of whitening varies from person to person, and no exact number of shades can be promised in advance. The result depends on the natural colour of the teeth, the type of stain, age and the method chosen.
- Yellowish teeth usually respond better than greyish teeth.
- Fillings, crowns and veneers do not whiten.
- Depending on lifestyle, the result can last about 1–3 years.
- Drinking tea and coffee and smoking can make the colour return more quickly.
You can find out what to watch out for in the first 48 hours on our page after whitening.

What should you bear in mind before you come?
A little preparation before your examination makes the consultation more productive.
- Bring a list of the medicines you take and any known allergies.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, be sure to tell us; whitening is not recommended during this time.
- If your teeth are sensitive, note when and in what situations it occurs.
- Bring any previous X-rays and treatment records you have.
- If your dentist recommends it, you can start using a desensitising toothpaste a few weeks before treatment.
At the end of the examination, we will clearly explain which method is recommended for you and why, how many sessions or days it will take and what to bear in mind afterwards. We encourage you to ask any questions you have during this consultation; there is no need to rush your decision.
